When Faith Meets Technology: Understanding AI Through God’s Wisdom
Dear Sister in Christ,
As I prayed about writing this chapter, Proverbs 2:6 kept coming to mind: “For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” In our rapidly changing world, this truth anchors us. Just as God gave Solomon wisdom to understand the natural world, He gives us wisdom to understand and use technology for His glory.
God’s Wisdom for Today’s Technology
Remember when telephones first moved from our walls to our pockets? That change shaped how we connect with each other. Now we’re facing an even bigger shift with artificial intelligence (AI). But don’t worry – God’s Word gives us timeless principles for every new season.
AI is like a powerful tool that can think and learn. Imagine having a very smart helper that can solve problems and find patterns. Just as God gave us minds to think and learn, He’s allowed humans to create tools that can process information in amazing ways.
Biblical Principles for Understanding AI
Let’s look at three key truths from God’s Word that help us understand AI:
- The Image of God (Genesis 1:27) “So God created mankind in his own image.” This truth reminds us that while AI can be helpful, it’s not made in God’s image like we are. It can’t replace human relationships or our connection with God.
- Wisdom in Using Tools (Proverbs 3:13-14) “Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding.” Just as Solomon taught about using resources wisely, we need God’s wisdom to use AI well.
- The Importance of Community (Hebrews 10:24-25) “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” Technology should enhance, not replace, our Christian fellowship.
Stories from Our Christian Sisters
Sarah, a busy homeschooling mom, shared how she uses an AI-powered Bible study tool: “It helps me find verses quickly, but I always pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance first.” Her wisdom shows us how to keep God at the center while using new tools.
Michelle, a women’s ministry leader, discovered how AI could help her organize church events: “It’s like having an extra helper, but I make sure our planning meetings still happen face-to-face. Nothing replaces praying together in person.”
Practical Applications with Biblical Wisdom
Here’s how we can apply God’s wisdom to using AI:
- Prayer First, Technology Second Before using any AI tool, pray for discernment. James 1:5 promises that God gives wisdom generously when we ask.
- Guard Your Heart and Data “Above all else, guard your heart” (Proverbs 4:23). This includes being wise about what personal information we share with technology.
- Build Real Relationships Use AI to enhance, not replace, personal connections. Schedule face-to-face Bible studies and prayer meetings.
Special Insight: The Principal Approach to Technology
Consider this Biblical principle: everything created should glorify God (Colossians 3:17). When evaluating AI tools, ask:
- Does this draw me closer to God?
- Does it help me serve others better?
- Does it align with Biblical truth?
Looking Ahead with Hope
AI might seem overwhelming but remember Joshua 1:9: “Be strong and courageous… for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” This includes our journey with technology.
Your Personal Growth Steps
- Start a prayer journal about technology use
- Study one Biblical principle each week
- Share what you learn with another sister in Christ
- Practice using one AI tool to enhance (not replace) your Bible study
Reflection Questions
- How can you use AI while keeping God first in your life?
- What Biblical principles guide your technology choices?
- How can you help your Christian sisters use technology wisely?
Remember, dear sister: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5). God’s wisdom will guide us through every technological change.
In this book, we’ll explore what the Bible says about using technology wisely. I’ll share practical tips and stories from other Christian women who are navigating this journey too. We’ll explore specific AI tools through the lens of Scripture and learn practical ways to use them in our Christian walk.
